FTA Welcomes new CEO

The FTA Board is pleased to announce the appointment of David Michell as the new CEO for the Association.

Michell is the former Technical Director and Deputy CEO of the Association serving from 1999 to 2006. He has 25 years experience in banking, investments and in technical and management roles in not-for-profit bodies serving financial professionals. His most recent role was as Business Development Manager for the Australian Centre for Financial Studies.

As CEO, David will be focusing on the critical areas of policy and advocacy, strategy and governance, State chapters and the broad marketing and promotion of the Association and its members’ capabilities.

Commenting on the appointment, FTA President, Paul Travers, noted that the appointment of a CEO marked an important milestone for the Association. He stated that “the Board and I are looking forward to working with David. He has the drive and qualities necessary to further build the FTA value proposition for members." Travers noted that “David was selected from a pool of enthusiastic and capable applicants, all of whom showed a great deal of confidence in the future of the FTA.”

Michell sketched out a vision for FTA’s renewal. “I want being a member of The Finance and Treasury Association to be seen as essential for all finance, treasury and risk professionals in Australia.”

FTA promotes better practices in treasury and aims to again be the preferred source of continuing professional development and information about all matters treasury and financial risk management in Australia.

Michell observed that “Cash flow is the life-blood of any company and corporate treasurers are daily taking the pulse. They understand better than anyone else the financial health of their companies and via their cash management, hedging and funding activities they ensure that CEOs have the funds to confidently implement corporate strategies.

“We want the treasurer’s perspective to be heard by policy-makers and regulators at this time of great change in the regulation of financial markets and practices.”
